Junior Tennis Tournament Age Groups Explained (Australia)
10/u, 12/u, 14/u — what the age groups mean, how your child qualifies, and how to find upcoming junior tournaments across Australia.
Australian junior tournaments are organised by age group — typically 8/u, 10/u, 12/u, 14/u, 16/u and 18/u. The 'u' stands for 'under', so 12/u means the player must be under 12 on the cut-off date set by Tennis Australia or the tournament organiser. Your child's age on that date, not today, decides which group they play in.
This is why keeping an accurate age on your child's profile matters. A child who's 11 now but turns 12 before the tournament's cut-off may need to play 14/u, not 12/u. Missing that detail means missed entries or disqualification.
Tournaments run year-round across every state — NSW, VIC, QLD, SA, WA, TAS, ACT and NT — but they fill fast and entry deadlines sneak up. Most parents find out about an event after entries close.
JuniorCourt Advisor matches your child's age group to upcoming tournaments in your state and sends an alert the moment a suitable event opens for entry, with a direct link to the tournament page. You stop missing deadlines and start entering the right events at the right time.
